Expedition Cerro Kishtwar

Together with Stephan Siegrist and Denis Burdet I will fly to Delhi on the 4th of September. Our destination is the north face of the so called Cerro Kishtwar at a dizzy height of 6200m in the Indian Kashmir-Himalaya.

Long run this region was inaccessible for tourists as well as alpinists because of the militant actions between India and Pakistan. In 1991 a team of Englishmen, headed by Andy Perkins, started the attempt to climb the 1000m high north face of Cerro Kishtwar. Despite their enormous effort they couldn’t reach the summit. Two years later Mike Fowler managed to reach the very top by overwhelming an ascent of ice and snow in the north-west face.

For our expedition, which is part of the 150 Peak Project of Mammut, we have a timeframe of six weeks. According to the proposed plan we will reach the Base camp at the 13th of September. We hope the weather conditions won’t upset our plans and we can reach our goal.

Of course we will also try to keep you up to date during the expedition…
